10 Ways For Men To Last Longer In Bed

Let’s talk about lasting longer in bed!

We know premature ejaculation can be frustrating and potentially embarrassing for many people with penises. It can affect both their "performance" in bed and possibly their relationships too. But it's important to recognize that premature ejaculation is more common than you might think; it affects around one in three men at some point in their life. Yes, you read that correctly, one in three.

The good news? It is easily treatable in most cases. There is a range of treatments available, and we're here to find the right one for you. From desensitizing creams to our in-app Lasting Longer In Bed course, there are multiple ways for men to improve their time to ejaculation - and their sexual satisfaction. So, let’s jump into 10 ways for men to last longer in bed.

1. Kegel exercises

Have you ever heard of kegel exercises? Simple but effective and 100% natural - just how we like it at Lover!

These exercises strengthen the pelvic floor muscles, which play a crucial role in controlling ejaculation. You can do them anywhere - in the car, at work, or while you're relaxing on your sofa at home.

To complete one kegel, simply squeeze the same muscles you'd normally use when you feel the urge to urinate, and have to hold it in. It can help to imagine you're actually in this situation - caught short and needing to stop yourself from urinating. You should feel a "lifting" between your legs - that's your Pelvic Floor tightening, and it is actually lifting up.

Hold the muscles in that position and count to five, then release. And try to focus on "actively" relaxing the muscles during this release. That means trying to really relax the Pelvic Floor, rather than just letting it un-tense.

That's one rep! To improve ejaculatory control, aim for three sets of 5-10 reps, with breaks in between. And do that circuit around three to four times a week.

By toning your muscles in this area, you'll be giving yourself much greater control of when you ejaculate - and how hard you ejaculate.

But a word of warning. Pay attention to your body and avoid the temptation to over-exercise. You're aiming for a toned pelvic floor, but over-exercise can actually create an overly tight muscle group, which can impact both your erections and your ability to orgasm.

For a kegel program that is personalized to you, along with everything else you need to build a more pleasurable sex life, you might want to check out the Lasting Longer In Bed course on the Lover app. The exercises in our course have been shown to extend your time to ejaculation by 7-9 minutes on average! 2. Thicker condoms

Reducing sensitivity during sex is one of the most popular techniques to lasting longer. And one of the most straightforward and common ways to do this is by choosing condoms with thicker walls. This one isn't rocket science - but it is surprisingly effective.

Thicker condoms create a heavier barrier whenever penetration happens, helping to reduce stimulation and thus extending your time in bed. Basically, by reducing sensitivity, people with a penis can gain better control over their bodies and ejaculation, leading to more satisfying sexual experiences for both partners!

However, be careful not to go too thick. There is a danger of reducing sensation to the point of not being able to get an erection, which is no good for anyone!

3. The "squeeze" technique

The squeeze technique involves squeezing the tip of the penis - in a careful but firm manner - just before ejaculation. This helps to reduce arousal and can be effective in "bringing you back from the edge". This can be done by either yourself or your partner (meaning, you can use it as an excuse to try out new things in bed). Once the feeling of ejaculation it’s gone, sex can be resumed.

This technique can help men gain better control over their ejaculation and last longer in bed, while at the same time introducing a new something if that’s what you’re looking for…

4. Experiment with different positions

One of our personal favorites, it’s fun, it’s nice, and it’s always exciting!

As you might know, some sexual positions may be more stimulating than others, which can lead to premature ejaculation.

Experimenting with different positions can help find the ones that are less stimulating -but still fun- for you, so you can last longer in bed.

As a recommendation, positions that allow for slower, deeper penetration may be helpful. Spooning is a good example of this.

Additionally, positions that allow you to control the pace may be helpful too. The missionary position is a good example of this.

5. Use desensitizing creams

If you’ve never heard about these, don’t worry about it. Unlike thick condoms, creams aren’t as well known, but serve the same purpose: reduce sensitivity.

Desensitizing creams helps reduce sensitivity and delay ejaculation in a safe way. These types of products are applied directly to the penis, and usually contain a mild anesthetic that numbs the penis, so you can last longer in bed.

Don't forget to always follow instructions carefully, as using too much cream can cause a loss of sensation and pleasure.

6. The start-stop technique

One of the most effective treatments for premature ejaculation is known as the "Start Stop" technique. This is often recommended by sex therapists and clinical psychologists for men who want to last longer in bed.

You are effectively training both your brain and body during this exercise, to build a better understanding of your arousal scale and ejaculatory reflex. The basic exercise is simple. You should begin masturbating, pay attention to your level of arousal, and then when you reach an 8 or 9 out of then on the scale and feel you're about to climax, simply stop masturbating. Wait for the arousal scale to return to a 4 or 5, and then start again.

However, to get the most out of this exercise, you'll want to have a program to follow. This will introduce variation into the exercises - which will prepare you for the variation you'll encounter during partnered sex.

Lover's Lasting Longer In Bed course contains a program of Start Stop exercises that are personalized to you. The program has been shown to be highly effective in increasing men's time to ejaculation - so why not try out our Free Trial today?

7. Relaxation techniques

Some "joy" killers when it comes to well-being or sexual health are anxiety and stress. And as you might guess already, these can also contribute to premature ejaculation.

That's why practicing relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, meditation, or yoga can help reduce stress and anxiety. This can help improve sexual performance and delay cumming. Plus, yoga positions can improve your overall sex life. It's a win-win situation!

8. Take breaks during sex

Not as popular as some other options, especially when it comes to being "at the moment", but taking breaks during sex can actually help you enjoy more your sexual life while lasting longer in bed.

By simply stopping during sex and engaging in non-sexual activities for a few minutes before going back "to action" you can improve the sexual experience for both; plus, stopping and going back to foreplay, teasing, and so on, can be a way to spice it up in bed as well. Fun!

9. Practice mindful sex

Being fully present and aware during sex means paying attention to sensations, thoughts, and emotions without judgment. Putting your mind to rest while experiencing your surroundings can help you concentrate into lasting longer in bed.

By focusing on the present moment, you can control better your arousal and not ejaculate as fast. And as you might imagine, mindful sex can also help improve both experiences in bed and intimacy.
